The Parts of Hearing Aids #

In-the-Ear (ITE) In-the-Ear hearing aid #

  1. Removal Handle: used to get the hearing aid out of the ear (this is not an antenna!)
  2. Charging contacts: contacts for charging the hearing aids
  3. Volume control: adjust the volume (turn right for louder, turn left to reduce volume)
  4. Microphone inlet: covers the underlying microphone. It must remain clean to work correctly.
  5. Power switch: turn the hearing aid on and off
  6. Dome: choose the right ear dome for a good deep fit in the ear canal.
  7. Wax filter: under the ear dome, protects the receiver from earwax. It must remain clean to work correctly.

Behind-the-Ear (BTE) Behind-the-Ear hearing aid #

  1. Front microphone inlet: covers the underlying microphone. It must remain clean to work correctly.
  2. Rocker switch: used to adjust the volume and to toggle through the hearing programs.
  3. Back microphone inlet (optional): covers the underlying microphone. It must remain clean to work correctly.
  4. Battery door: contains the battery. Close it to turn the hearing aid on, open it to turn the hearing aid off.
  5. Sound tube (slim tube): amplified sound goes from the hearing aid through the sound tube into the ear canal.
  6. Dome: choose the right ear dome for a good deep fit in the ear canal.
  7. Retention: helps to remove the sound tube easily. It also keeps the dome in place when placed in the auricle
