Cleaning In-the-Ear (ITE) Hearing Aids #

What you need:

Small soft brush or soft-bristled toothbrush
Small hook
Wax filter
Tissue

To clean the aperture in your hearing aid, dampen a small soft brush (ie. the one that comes with the hearing aids) or a soft-bristled toothbrush and clean it. Instead of being trapped inside, any loose matter should fall out when you hold the hearing aid with the aperture you’re cleaning pointing down.

Remove any items that did not come out with the brush with a wax pick or hook after that.

If you can see any visual debris within the sound port, replace the wax filter.

To finish, clean the device with a clean, dry towel or tissue. This will remove any debris from your hearing aid.

Cleaning Behind-the-Ear (BTE) Hearing Aids #

What you need:

Small soft brush or soft-bristled toothbrush
cleaning wire
Wax filter
Tissue

Remove any debris from the equipment with a light brush or a dry cloth. Examine the microphone ports for any obstructions and clean them gently with a soft brush.

Remove and clean the ear dome. Replace it if it doesn’t get clean anymore.

Remove the sound tube and clean it by sticking the cleaning wire (that comes with the hearing aids) through the tube.

Put everything together again and wipe it with a clean, dry towel or tissue.
